  • Challenges
  • Meeting sustainable textile standards of global brands: Mercury Fabrics lacked the digital infrastructure to monitor and reduce pollution levels. They had no existing technical knowledge or experience in tracking pollution.
  • No data gathering system: Mercury Fabrics struggled to monitor effluents and faced challenges in collecting emissions data required for compliance.
  • Lack of hardware and software for compliance monitoring: Mercury Fabrics faced a two-fold challenge—no hardware to track emissions and no software to ensure compliance.
  • Compliance warnings for excess emissions: Mercury Fabrics had received legal warnings due to non-compliance with pollution monitoring regulations and lacked awareness of tracking requirements.
  • Outcome
  • The Sustainability Cloud established an automated digital system to monitor Mercury Fabrics’ emission levels. With the help of TSC Enviro, the company effectively managed environmental impact across production departments, ensuring compliance with global standards.
  • The Sustainability Cloud implemented a robust data collection system, enabling Mercury Fabrics to track effluents and emissions accurately. The company now monitors CO2, PM, NOx, SOx, BOD, COD, TSS, and Flow Rate with precision.
  • TSC Enviro provided both hardware and software solutions, creating an integrated system for seamless pollution monitoring and ensuring adherence to environmental regulations.
  • With support from The Sustainability Cloud, Mercury Fabrics resolved compliance warnings. The company received training on regulatory compliance and has maintained a flawless environmental record since 2015.

Recognizing the need for a sustainable monitoring partner

Established in 2003, Mercury Fabrics is a leading textile manufacturer with a production capacity of 8,400 tons of finished fabric per year, generating annual sales of approximately $40 million USD. The company exports high-quality fabrics to global hubs, including Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Indonesia. However, with increasing regulatory demands and the industry’s shift toward sustainable practices, Mercury Fabrics faced mounting challenges in pollution monitoring and compliance.

By 2015, the company had received multiple compliance warnings due to a lack of pollution monitoring systems. With no prior experience in tracking emissions and no infrastructure in place, Mercury Fabrics urgently needed a solution to align with sustainability standards.

Building a comprehensive sustainability infrastructure with TSC Enviro

The textile industry contributes to 6-8% of global carbon emissions. Mercury Fabrics recognized the pressing need to integrate sustainability into its operations but struggled due to the absence of a structured digital system. To bridge this gap, The Sustainability Cloud introduced its TSC Enviro solution, offering a seamless framework for monitoring and reducing emissions and effluents.

TSC Enviro integrated real-time monitoring of Carbon (CO2), Particulate Matter (PM), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Sulfur Oxides (SOx), and key water pollutants, including Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), and Flow Rate. Through this system, Mercury Fabrics established a fully automated data collection and compliance management framework, enabling them to meet global sustainability standards.

Adhering to the highest manufacturing standards is key to our operations at Mercury Fabrics. Since we are one of India’s leading knit fabric manufacturers, our exported textiles reach hubs in Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia, and beyond. This meant we had to adhere to strict global guidelines in terms of our production process and footprint. TSC Enviro over the past 10 years ensured we were able to maintain our high standards of production and continue to transparently expand our global trade.
