The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism has specific guidelines and rules for submitting the emissions data to the European Union. There are official CBAM reporting templates for EU importers and non-EU exporters. However, the embedded emissions data and the related information mandated under the CBAM must be included in any similar reporting template. For companies dealing in import and export business related to fasteners only, the European Fasteners Distributors Association (EFDA) has developed an alternative template for CBAM reporting. It represents the interests of fastener distributors in the European Union market and acts as a forum for free trade in the global market.
EFDA guide for CBAM reporting
The EFDA has introduced special guidelines for non-EU suppliers of fasteners to do CBAM reporting. The CBAM reporting template developed by the EFDA is only applicable to EU fasteners importers, suppliers, and its mentors. The association has created its own template as it believes “the communication template created by the European Commission is far too extensive and complex for the suppliers to use and report the required data to their customers in Europe.”
As per the EFDA, EU CBAM guidelines have developed complex and time-consuming Communication Template for importers and suppliers. This is because the template has been developed for all CBAM goods and processes. The template given by the EU asks for a lot of information that is not relevant to many suppliers of fasteners and can thus be ignored.
EFDA CBAM reporting template components
The EFDA template, which is only applicable to the fasteners group of companies, ensures importers and exporters fill up all the details required for submitting the CBAM reports in a single data sheet. Moreover, the single template collects all CBAM data for up to 20 CBAM products. In order to use the template for more products than 20, additional EFDA templates can be used to compile the report accordingly. Here is a look at the relevant information needed for CBAM reporting under the EFDA reporting template for fastener suppliers:
Operator: Under the EFDA CBAM reporting template, suppliers are required to provide administrative details about the operator who controls the manufacturing of CBAM goods at the installation.
Responding company: This column has to be filled only by the responding company on behalf of the operator.
Reporting period: As the name indicates, suppliers must provide details, including the reference period used to decide CBAM data.
Template filled: This column asks for just the dates on which the template was filled.
Installation information: Section E is the most critical part of the EFDA template, as it asks for all the data that EU importers must submit in the CBAM report.
How TSC NetZero’s CBAM tool help in CBAM reporting?
TSC NetZero’s CBAM reporting software can eliminate all challenges faced by importers and exporters. Accurate data collection and management are essential for verification and auditing. The most effective way to implement CBAM is through digitising emissions data, as the process is time-consuming and complex. Emissions data must be collected in a specific format, and managing and maintaining this large-scale data is tedious. Moreover, the TSC NetZero helps compile the emissions data and submit them to EU importers using the EFDA template.
